Spring Dream hand-stamped masked card

Spring is here... well, I'm not sure Winter hit Southern California, but with my trees, roses and plants blossoming, the sweet smell of citrus and flowers blows in the Spring breeze I will celebrate the Spring Season!  Send a unique WOW card with this easy masking technique on this hand-stamped card.  We do have these Santa Ana winds that start in Spring... I tried to capture this vibe and these winds with this fun sponging technique.
Create this card with:
Pool Party card stock (#122924)
Wild Wasabi card stock (#108641)
Very Vanilla card stock (#101650)
Pool Party ink (#126982)
Wild Wasabi ink (#126959)
Neutrals Stampin' Write Markers (#131261)
Subtles Stampin' Write Markers (#131263)
Lovely As A Tree stamp set (#128655w/127793c)
Loving Thoughts stamp set (#128436w/125845c)
Stampin' Sponges (#101610)
Ovals Framelits Collection (#129381)
Big Shot Magnetic Platform (#130658)
Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (#113439)
An insider's trick is howwww to pair colors together and which colors work best.  I ADORE the Color Coach (#130118) which pairs together colors (it even helps in my closet with my addiction to clothes and accessories - lol).  The secret (they break this down in the Color Coach, as well) is the percentage of the colors you use.  (See how I try to use this in this card as these colors were paired together with the aide of my Color Coach.)

Start with the Primary color that you are using - using this as the bulk of your color.  Then use the next color but in a 50% ratio and then if you add a third, 50% of that.  I rarely go over 3 colors but I keep a reduced percentage of the colors so it is appealing to the eye!  NOW you know!
Capture the WIND!  Not an easy task - lol.  We love the blustery winds of the area (ummmm - not) yet they appear every Spring and Fall.  So here, I used my Stampin' Sponge in the ink pads to create the appearance of moving grass and swirling clouds and wind.  See HOW below:
First, I create a mask with a large sticky note and the aide of my Big Shot, Magnetic Platform and the Ovals Framelits.  Create the mask size that you desire and make sure to leave sticky on one side to hold the mask to your project.

Second, Start with the Grass.  Using the Stampin' Sponge to create swirled and brushed 'grass' with the Wild Wasabi ink pad along the bottom of the mask on the Very Vanilla card stock.

Third, Swirl on Pool Party ink with the Stampin' Sponge.  Leave areas of blank for the 'clouds'.  When you twist the sponge on the card stock, the ink will have a subtle swirl.
Using the Subtles Stampin' Write Marker in Wild Wasabi and Color the leaves and grass of the oak tree (I live in Thousand Oaks, CA).  Using the Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write Marker to color in the branches and trunk of the tree.

Stamp the tree so that it lays over the masked area and the blank area.  Do the same with the Dare to Dream from the Loving Thoughts stamp set.  This balances the card while giving a window of WOW!
Accent the percentage of the color with the addition of the Wild Wasabi card stock. I placed it on the lower 1/2 of the image so that it highlighted the grass and leaves.

What Others are SAYING about Getting Crafty with Jamie

Jamie is so passionate and creative about making cards - and wants everyone else to join her in the fun! She is so encouraging and positive in her attitude, helping me along when I get frustrated - and then rejoicing with me at the finished product! I love going to her classes to get new ideas, learn techniques, and have loads of fun in the process. ~ Christine C.

Jamie has wicked awesome classes! If you don’t like a particular stamp or paper/ink color Jamie wants you to change it to suit your style! I did my sister-in-law’s entire bridal shower from invitations/thank you cards, party favors to decorations, it was quaint and whimsical! Everyone ooh’d and ahh’d! I’ve had lots of special requests for classes and Jamie delivers; she always has tasty treats and flavored coffees too ~Ashley W.

I have been attending Jamie's classes for over a year. Her ideas for cards are fresh and fun. She always tries to have several different styles of cards available, so everyone gets to make cards that fit their personal style. The techniques she shows each class can be used in many different applications. She is very patient teacher when instructing class members on how to use the Stampin Up products. ~ Carol D.

If I looked up the word sparkle in the dictionary, I would find Jamie Albanese picture there. I have had the sweet blessing of knowing Jamie and her family for over 5 years now. Every time I am with her I feel loved and inspired. When I am in one of her classes I feel my creative juices flow, as she encourages me to go outside my comfort zone. Jamie helped our girl scout troop make cards for a soldier who needed some encouragement!!! For any of you who have not been in one of Jamie's classes, please don't let another day slip by. She is a beautiful friend and she will become yours too. ~ Blessings, Karen:-)

Jamie has a great eye for style and flair, and it shows in her work. Yet she can pick up on your own individual style and makes great recommendations. I love that she is always flexible for last-minute decision maker mommies like me! So much fun to host craft events with your friends and family - that personal touch always means so much. ~ Adonna
