Adventures with paint
I apologize. This entry should have been posted last night but what I have discovered over the last few days is I’m drained. I am currently not speaking to someone very close to me and that combined with working long hours have led to me not being in the mood to talk much.
But I’m at work and it’s my lunch break at work so I’ll take a moment to share with you the results of the challenge. My first attempt at painting will not be shared due to its awfulness (you may wonder if I ended up deciding to share the photo anyway when you see the final result). Let’s just say I’m just getting the hang of this painting thing shall we? Better yet, let’s just look at Jummy painting as an experiment. There wasn’t much thought that went into this painting except that I wanted to experiment with black, white and purple:

I bought all my supplies at the dollar store and while Dollarama has never led me astray, they did this time. When 12 or so paintbrushes cost $1, you will likely have some problems with them, and I did: they shed like an animal and unfortunately you can see the “hairs” in the lighter shades on the painting.
Speaking about the painting…here it is:

I am always doodling swirls, so I thought it would be fun to paint them too. It was fun to paint the background using the largest paintbrush and bold strokes but those finer swirls required far more dexterity than I had after not having painted in over a decade. I’m not crazy about how pink the top half of the picture looks—I was hoping it would be more of a pale lilac once it dried. I think this picture might grow on me and if not, let’s just say that this experience has whetted my appetite to paint again, just for fun and just for me.

Well sweetie, you may not be happy with the top colour in your work of art, and as a creative creature myself, I understand what you are saying and why. We have a “vision” of what we expect to make and that’s what we work to achieve. What I do know is this…what we create, how things work out is generally how they were meant to work out.
You took something you like doing..doodling and swirls and you created something incredibly beautiful.
This is magnificent. For someone who hasn’t painted for over a decade, you wouldn’t know it. I’m loving this so much and I’m loving that you took the risk, you took the chance and put down what you were feeling. Absolutely brilliant!!
True, true, true about Dollarama. You do get what you pay for and in the case of something like paint brushes, quality is usually what you won’t find there. But for the purpose of this exercise it made sense to not lay out a small fortune in supplies. If you are going to lift the brushes again I hope you will invest in the real McCoy…just think how the canvas will sing!!
O/T…I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t speaking to someone you are close to and that you have some strife in your life. It is draining emotionally when we are hurting. Sending you blessings that things will work themselves out soon.
Brava Jummy!! You mastered the challenge!!!

It’s awesome that you’re painting!
I’ve found, too, that paintbrushes are a you-get-what-you-pay-for item.
I hope to see more of your paintings soon!
