First ever Get Crafty Challenge!

by

witchhat1.jpg Thanks to faithful reader Sherry, we now have a challenge in place for all of you who find yourself in the following situation:

You have enough paper, embellishments and other craft materials to sink a ship, yet you continue to buy more. You’ve lost track of exactly what you have and where it is, and on the rare occasion that you decide to organize things, you invariably discover that you’re the proud owner of five packages of green paper (which you may never use). Not only do you have more crafting supplies than you know what to do with, you haven’t been feeling motivated of late to do anything with it (except collect more of it).

Well stop your needless collecting and fretting because Ready Set Craft! - The Get Crafty Challenge (name subject to change) is here!

The purpose of this challenge is to:

  • encourage you to get crafting
  • allow you to explore your creativity
  • give you a starting point (since many of us have trouble starting because there are just too many choices out there!)
  • serve as a catalyst: today you master crafts, tomorrow your junk drawer, next week the world!

Sherry has come up with four challenges for us already! However, if you’re as much of a novice crafter as I am, having too much choice at one time is daunting, so we’ll do them one by one. Ready for your mission?

Challenge #1: The Halloween Card
Halloween will be here in a few weeks and although this holiday generally gets overlooked by me, this year will be an exception! Using whatever materials you’d like (we’ll even let you buy a few things if you must) create a Halloween card.

Due date: October 15, 2007. Please send a photograph of your creations to jummy.gettingcrafty@gmail.com if you would like it to be featured on this site. Please also post it on your own blog or website if you would like.

On this day, both Sherry and I will reveal our creation(s) (you never know: we may get on a roll!) and also share any of your creations that we have received.

If you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comments, and I’ll try to address them the best I can.

Good luck and happy crafting!

Please go and read Sherry’s Challenging Oneself Through Art for more inspiration!

    On your marks, get set…GO!!!!
I hope others will take up this challenge…it’s for fun, it’s for your spirit and it needn’t be elaborate. Taking a page from an earlier post of your’s Jummy, copying someone else’s idea, something you’ve seen and embellishing on that is a start point. No need to stress about what to make. And there is no “right” or “wrong” or a prize for the “winner”. The only winning here is self-congratulation for doing something for “you” and the appreciation of other crafters for the time and energy spent on letting a little of your inner self into the spotlight.

Jummy says: You’re so right, Sherry! I’m inspired and I know that if you hadn’t come along with this challenge, I would still be accumulating things without forcing myself to express myself creatively through it so thank you! I’m looking forward to this!
