More cards? Yes!

by Jummy

Well after my initial excitement over sewing on paper, I went into a full blown frenzy last week, staying up until about 2 in the morning several nights in a row making cards. Despite all this work with paper, I promise you, I am not Kari!

Some of the other cards that I’ve made are:

This is my favourite because it was a true labour of love, getting those little squares to sit still while I stitched them down. I learned a trick or two as I went along (put a bit of glue to make sure they stay in the general area they’re supposed to stay!), and I find that every card I make gets better than the last, even with respect to sewing straight.

Another one that copied that patchwork idea.

I have a fair bit of paper that doesn’t have those “Christmassy” colours (red, green, gold, silver) in them, and I wanted to make a series of Winter wonderland type cards. So far I have only made this one:

I also brought out a silver stamp pad that I had found at the dollar store and added some slow flakes and a festive message to the card.

Once you figure out what sort of cards you want to make, I find sewing them is really quick and easy: it probably takes me less than 10 minutes to make the patchwork-type cards, and about two or three minutes to make the simpler cards. I haven’t’ been covering up the stitching that shows up on the backside of the cards because it wasn’t a big deal to be but as I mailed off a batch last week, I wondered if the recipients would care about that. I’m hoping they don’t even notice!

I saved all the local cards for last, so I see more sewing in my future. As my siblings have watched me work, they’ve expressed that they will be very disappointed if they don’t get a handmade card this year so I have approximately 15 more cards to make. This week though, I promise to get to bed at a decent hour: Time management will be the key to getting this work done during normal waking hours.

I am so impressed!! No, not because you did this and I’m surprised…I’m impressed because these are standout cards..and I always knew you could do this. Staying up as late as you have? Just a sign that you are loving what you are doing and the joy is taking you where it wants to go. Just simply loving these!

There are great, too! You’re on a roll.

The first one is definitely one of my favorites, as well! =)
