Welcome to Getting Crafty!

by

Thank you for stopping by at Getting Crafty today. I am your new hostess, Jummy, and I look forward to getting to know the crafting crowd quite well.

I’m a novice crafter: I love everything from knitting to scrapbooking, and one simple craft that I do regularly is make marble magnets for friends and winners of a contest I run on my personal blog. Since my early days of jazzing up school projects with pop-up book elements and making friendship bracelets with embroidery thread, I’ve been interested in crafts and exploring my creativity; but unlike some (most?) crafters, coming up with original ideas can be difficult for me. This site will give me an opportunity to express my creativity, share tips, tricks, insights and bright ideas with you, and learn a lot from you too! And to those of you who claim to not have a creative bone in your bodies? I don’t believe it!

And now, before I tempt you to use your Exacto knife to slit cut something other than paper, I have a few questions for you:

  • What is your favourite type of craft?
  • Name a type of craft that you know nothing about but would love to learn to do?
  • Who is/are the main crafters in your household or family?

And if you’d be kind enough to include a link to a handmade craft that you’re especially proud of, please do! I’d love to check it out!

I don’t have a favorite craft but I’d love to be more crafty(sp?).

I would like to learn more about making candles. Does that count as a craft?

My mom is craft nut. I can’t do any of that stuff-yet.

    1. What is your favourite type of craft? Wow, that’s a hard choice. I used to really enjoying knitting, but I’m taking a break. I also really like making little animals out of felt (sewn, embroidered, etc.) But my favorite might be doing stuff with paper.

2.Name a type of craft that you know nothing about but would love to learn to do? Paper quilling.

    3. Who is/are the main crafters in your household or family? Me! My husband does clay sculpture, some beading, painting, etc. though.

    Here’s a Super Shroom pillow I made: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/184/424007411_fa2e69ff5c.jpg

Name a type of craft that you know nothing about but would love to learn to do?
Well, I took crafts in High School. So I guess, upon reflection, that I know a little about a lot of different crafty things. I’d love to know more about spinning, dyeing, and weaving, though.

Who is/are the main crafters in your household or family?
    Yes.
We all have our crafty side, but I think that I am the least skilled of the lot.

–Maybe this is the problem. I have to go back seven generations to find anyone in my family that can sew on a button. We all think that the greatest invention of the 20th century was velcro.

Seriously, though, candles and soap would be the two things I’d like to try someday … after my renter’s insurance is paid up.

    Welcome, Jummy!

  10. Carrie Says:

Congrats on taking over the blog, Jummy! I love your magnets - hope you’ll post how you make them. :-)

    1. Favourite craft is soap making, followed very closely by candle making.

    2. Definitely quilting, although I’d also love to learn pottery.

    3. Me, but the kids are quickly catching up!

  11. Summer Says:

My favorite craft has to be scrapbooking. I love putting together paper and pictures to make something beautiful.

I’d love to learn more about knitting, if I ever get the time. I’ve been swearing since December I was going to learn but still haven’t.

I’m the crafty one in my family. My mother is semi-crafty but I’m far more addicted than she is. LOL
