A while back, friends Hannah and her mom, shared their journey with family members who God brought to them. They have had pseudo sisters and now have a pseudo brother who is disabled. Disabled children often out live their family and are often placed in institutions or group homes when they have no place to go. I found a tug on my own heart, learning the impact of these adopted family members on every member of their family.
What I found interesting, was the prick upon my own heart, that I believe the Lord placed.
The following week, our Pastor spoke of a need in a service we had in our own church, in a similar matter. The Friends Ministry is amazing and run by two amazing people - Mark and Rissa. My daughter and I, ending one service else where, joined immediately.
I do not know where the Lord is taking us, in this journey, but He led us to the most amazing group of people and volunteers. Our lives have been forever changed and blessed for it. I was asked, why... why I serve in this ministry when we don't have a child afflicted with these limitations, asked by a man who had a grandchild who was. I had to smile and simply share that it sure is funny how the Lord works.
Recently I gave a lesson to the Friends while Rissa and Mark had to miss a Sunday. What a joy it was! I spoke upon the Lord's Love for us and how, during Valentines, we can often see hearts all around. I do hope that we all reflect on His love with every commercial and decorative heart we see as He called us to love others as we love ourselves... the greatest of the commandments is to love.
