Growing up I remember these framed 'art' that my mother made with Cross-Stitch. She stitched in fine detail a stunning Tiger and in another frame a vase filled with vibrant flowers.
I never learned the art of cross stitch.
My friend Pam is known for her award winning patterns even... so it has always been a temptation to learn!
(the embroidery thread makes such pretty bracelets - lol)
With the NEW Sweet Threads Simply Sent kit (Spring Mini) I jumped at the opportunity to combine my love of cards and paper crafting with the memories of my mother's art of Cross~Stitching.
This KIT includes all one needs to learn HOW to Cross-Stitch. It has the patterned card stock base, the stitch dies in a tulip and a cupcake... come and play along with me!
So I'm farrrrr from perfect - lol... just ask my kids and husband - lol... but I find that new challenges can quickly frustrate my A~Type Personality.
HERE goes to show that everyone has room to grow and yes, it's OK to 'mess up'. I stitched with a different needle that was larger than the whole - this caused me to pull harder than necessary. As I finished the last stitch, I pulled tightly and did it so quick and hard that I ripped the tulip!
Darn!!!
It was soooo upsetting.. I wanted to throw it to the ground and walk away... what a lesson that would be to my kids - lol.
I left it to the side and re-thunk it by the next day.
Taking one of the clean slate dies, I then planned out a replacement with a pencil on a clean Whisper White card stock. I now can re-do it! I love that I was able to come up with a solution while having a great example for my kids.
I'll punch this out with our Ovals to create an 'Easter Egg' w/ a Tulip in the middle! BAM! A Save!! YES!!
This Kit comes with EVERYTHING You'll Need - including extensive directions and pictures on how-to!!
OF COURSE... I'm going to change it up!
So using our FREE Sale~A~Bration Mini Vine Street Textured Impression Embossing Folder (YES ~ FREE!!) and my Big Shot for 1/2 way Up the card.
Our Primrose Petal pink ink is a match to the pink thread. It's a fun way to add to the card and stay coordinated!!
'Memories' from the Loving Thoughts stamp set (Idea Book & Catalog). It captures the memories of my mom's amazing skills! I then debated whether to add the Tea Lace paper doily or not... hmmmm...
Without it's still lovely...
but I added it just because I loved the results!
Break Up the White on White by using my Sponge Daubers in Primrose Petal ink on the Cross~Stitched card.
Bling?? Meeeee??? lol Yes!
Our Basic Jewels Pearls kit has these tiny adhesive backed pearls... perfect for the flower! (Like icing a cake!)
So go simple, clean and elegant...
Or be like me and change it up!
Either Way you are Sure to warm some one's heart!
With out delay,
I wrote a nice note to my mom and
Popped it in the mail!

ReplyDeleteFrom a person who does a lot of cross stitching, you did a fine job - as well as learning a lot in the process. Your patience and ingenuity are admirable. Thanks for sharing your talent and insights with the LNS group this week.
