Vintage Valentines Love hand-crafted card making tutorial

Valentine's Day started in 496 (WOW) and in the 18th Century the art of sending Valentine's Day cards came to America.  I love how this historic celebration of love is still practiced today!  So in a nod to the days of old, this Vintage Valentine was hand-crafted at our recent Valentine Palooza Card Making Class.  See how fun it is to take a trip to the past and revel in the beauty of old fashioned looking Valentine Day Cards.  I love how these new paper crafting tools, embossing folders, thinlits, stamp sets, embellishments and more can create a lovely vintage hand-stamped card.

I adore this new Bundle in the Occasions Catalog!!  The Crazy About You stamp set has 33 stamps that perfectly coordinate with the Hello You thinlits.  Here you create a custom saying that fits your exact need.  Stamp your sentiment (here the 'Love') with Stazon Jet Black ink pad.  Emboss the Blushing Bride card stock (4-1/8"x 5-1/4") with the Happy Hearts embossing folder in the Big Shot.  This will give you a clear stamped image (versus stamping after embossing).

Die cut a strip of Very Vanilla card stock using the Hello You thinlits on the Magnetic Platform and Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine.  Adhere with the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive as the lines are sooo thin!!

Punch 8 hearts using the Sweetheart punch and vintage Typset Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Fold four together and use the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive down the seam of each to stack these four punched hearts.  Fluff for a cool look and adhere to the embossed card front with Stampin' Dimensional Adhesive.

Accent with the Antique Brads, Artisan Rosettes, Venetian Crochet Trim and adhesive backed Pearl Jewels.

Start this card by stamping this sentiment on the Whisper White card stock in Cherry Cobbler ink.  THEN, stamp to the side (to prevent a squished feel) the Cup of choice (there are 5 glass options, four sentiments and accessories to use this all year long!).  Stamp the cup on the BACK of the Red Glimmer Paper - cutting out the 'drink' portion so that when you turn it over, it creates a red sparkled drink!  Adhere it with the SNAIL adhesive and BAM! a styling drink worthy of toasting!

Create a cute and easy card with a 3" card created from a sheet of 12" Whisper White card stock.  I love that one sheet of 12" card stock will give you 8 cards (great for when you aren't using it to scrapbook).

 

The Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper makes for a whimsical background with it's bright colors and soft feel.  Stamp this Daisy, Bee and Hello, Spring sentiment from the Springtime Hello stamp set (both of these are in the Occasions 'Let's Celebrate' catalog).  This Jet Black Stazon ink gives a sharp impression to these pretty stamps. 

 

Using the Aqua Painter in the Gumball Green In-Color (and soon to go away - so grab yours NOW) stamp pad and highlight the leaves and stem.  This watercolor look to this bold line stamp softens the stamp while holding the image true.  The Aqua Painter has a fine tip and can color great details like this. 

 

Color the bumble bee and daisy with Daffodil Delight ink from the stamp pad and then the centers with the Tangerine Tango stamp pad.  This creates a color coordinated and festive Spring feel.

I love our Taffeta Ribbon (really - all ribbon - much like paper I stock up, hoard and revel in it).  Here the Daffodil Delight Taffeta Ribbon is sadly, retired!!  Wrapping this tailored ribbon around the stamped and colored image is easy with our Glue Dots!  They hold the ribbon to the back.  I like to do a separate bow so that I can work it into the perfect shape.  I then use another Glue Dot to adhere it to the front - this makes for perfect placement, too!  A delicate card like this with it's pretty delicate images looks great with a fine ribbon like this - perfectly balancing the card.

This sweet little mouse was inspired by a cute hair-bow in a my daughter's friend's hair.  I couldn't resist recreating it with my own little twist.

The highlight of a field trip we made to a Compost Plant (ewwww) this cute bow was a sweet find (and better than seeing the alive kind).

The Label Love BUNDLE (saving 15% - YAY) has a great collection of sentiments.  Stamping this 'best friend' greeting with Crumb Cake ink on Blushing Bride card stock, it pops out and ties perfectly in with this punch-art card.

 

Create these cute punch-art mice with our 1-3/4" Circle Punch for the 'body'.  The Full Heart punch folded in half adds towards to look of a face.  Curl the edges of the 'ears' with the side of my Bone Folder for a raise look.  Add this cute nose with the flower punch from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack and the Blushing Bride card stock.  Adhere to the tip of the heart with the Glue Dot.  Trim it down, from behind, so it looks like a cute nose!

This cute but rustic card is adorable with the aide of the Hardwood background stamp using Crumb Cake ink on the Sahara Sand card stock card base.  This reminds me of a cute barn door look.. perfect for this adorable mouse!

 

Create these sparkling eyes when you color in our adhesive backed Rhinestone Jewels with a permanent marker (like a Sharpie or Bic, etc.).  They stick on and shine like onyx for a pretty accent.  (Mice have red eyes, but I figured that would look scary, lol, and skipped that.)

 

Tie on a cute accent with the Gold Baker's Twine as the mouse tail.  This supports the rustic look and the cute knots will surly tie on a smile or two.  See my tip on using the new Gold and Silver Baker's Twine with this cute video:
